9/5/2023 0 Comments Tripadvisor cafe old vienna![]() ![]() The lunch portion is slightly smaller than the dinner portion and doesn't come with a salad, but you'll definitely not walk away hungry. My favorite is the sausage platter (knackwurst and bratwurst), which comes with sauerkraut that you can tell they make on the premises (in other words definitely not out of a can) and the most delicious spaetzle & gravy I've even eaten. I've eaten here literally dozens of times over the last few years and never had a bad meal. The service is always prompt and on point, it's very affordable, and most importantly the food is consistently good. We travel about 25 miles each way just to eat here, it's that good. Where they used to seat probably 25 people tops, they have now more than doubled in size, and the addition of a full bar and an outdoor seating area has made this a once a month dining tradition for us. ![]() They made a great decision to move into their new larger location at 17th Ave N on Kings Highway. But we always made sure we made reservations (especially for dinner) because they would fill up fast. Unfortunately, due to "the boss'" lack of consideration for their customers who actually need that extra space to get into & out of their vehicles, as well as the disinterested attitude I got from the hostess in response to my complaint - I will most likely never return to Cafe Old Vienna, nor will I continue to suggest that anyone visit this restaurant again. We used to go to Café Old Vienna when they were in their (much) smaller place at 38th Ave Village Shopping Center and always loved it. ![]() After basically being brushed off by the hostess, I didn't figure I would get any further with "the boss." My family has not dined at Cafe Old Vienna often, but we have been dining with them since they were in their previous, smaller location and have always considered them a special place to visit for very special occasions. I did take the opportunity to speak with local traffic enforcement after leaving the restaurant to verify that "the boss" using that diagonally-lined zone in that manner was illegal. I went inside once more to tell the hostess this, at which time she told me, "Oh, I meant to tell you - that's the boss' car." I attempted to explain to her that, boss' car or not, it's not legal for them to be parked there (even with the "Authorized Parking Only" sign they had put up) - and she basically stared at me and walked away before I had a chance to finish my sentence. When I went back inside to tell the hostess that someone was parked in that "No Parking" zone, she initially told me, "Oh, well, we use that for extra handicapped parking if we get too busy." At first, I was willing to accept that explanation - until I went back outside and saw that the car in question did not have a handicapped placard, nor did it have a handicapped license plate. Because this person parked in this area, we were forced to remove our car from the handicapped spot and block traffic while helping my elderly family member get into the car. Having a family member who is over the age of 90 and must use a walker to get around, you can understand how annoying this was. On our way out of the restaurant, we noticed that someone was parked very close to our vehicle (which was in a handicapped parking spot) in a clearly marked "No Parking" zone. Unfortunately, I will most likely never dine here again due to an incident on my most recent visit. I've referred many friends, family members, and visitors here over the past several years, and I've been pleased to see the restaurant grow from its previous location to its new location. I would like to start my review by saying that, as far as food and service goes, Cafe Old Vienna has always been my favorite German restaurant in the Myrtle Beach area. ![]()
